Rapper Young Dolph was assassinated while shopping for cookies in Memphis

Rapper Young Dolph, who was well revered in the hip-hop industry for his honesty and fiery independence, was shot and killed outside a cookie store in Memphis, Tennessee.

Police stated that they have no information to disclose on a probable suspect in the incident, which occurred near Memphis International Airport at Makeda's Cookies.

"He was inside [Makeda's] when someone simply rolled up on him and killed him," his cousin Mareno Myers told a local newspaper.

Just last week, the cookie shop uploaded a video on Instagram showing the rapper, born Adolph Robert Thornton Jr, endorsing the store's cookies and claiming he went back everytime he was in Memphis.

"The horrific shooting murder of rap musician Young Dolph serves as yet another reminder of the misery that violent crime causes," stated Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland in a statement.

Young Dolph, 36, followed in the footsteps of the late Los Angeles rapper Nipsey Hussle, who was assassinated in 2019.

Young Dolph has three albums chart in the top ten on the Billboard 200, with 2020's Rich Slave reaching number four and its single RNB, starring Megan Thee Stallion, going gold.

Young Dolph recently played at a concert at the University of Memphis and at a Memphis Grizzlies game during the half-time show.

Chance the Rapper, a Chicago rapper, tweeted, "God bless Dolph."

"Memphis rapper born in Chicago who is very autonomous. Millions of people adore him."

Dolph, as a child, had survived earlier gunshots.

After a confrontation outside a Los Angeles hotel in September 2017, he was shot numerous times.

Near February of that year, his SUV was fired at more than 100 times in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The incident sparked the idea for the song 100 Shots. According to The Commercial Appeal, he stated he survived because he had bulletproof panels in his truck.

Memphis authorities, sportsmen, and a slew of music industry figures expressed their sympathies on social media.

"R.I.P. to my friend Dolph, this crushed my heart," rapper Gucci Mane tweeted.

APA, Young Dolph's talent agency, expressed sorrow and sadness at his demise.

"The world has lost an icon, a terrific man and adored artist who was taken much too young," the Associated Press stated in a statement.

"His devotion, passion, hard work, and loyalty to all those around him came first, and he will be much missed."
